Despite the inconsistency of the relationships between structure and properties of the plant cell wall, which has been debated since the late 1960s, the role of cellulose-hemicellulose interactions with respect to the mechanobiology of the primary plant cell wall is undisputed. Still, there is much to consider on the physicochemical properties of the primary plant cell wall polysaccharides and the mechanical properties of the primary plant cell wall. The development of the primary plant cell wall analogues of interconnected bacterial cellulose and plant cell wall hemicelluloses can serve as a tool to achieve a simplified macroscale representations of the plant cell wall that have a homogeneous structure and are repeatable.
